One-on-one training for the Motorcycle Skills Test (MST) and the road test, plus the techniques and mindset that make you a confident, safe rider long after test day.
Learn to ride well,
not just to pass
Riding a motorcycle is a different skill from driving a car. Balance, clutch control, braking and traffic awareness all need practice in the right order. Our lessons start where you are, whether you have never touched a bike or you have ridden before and want to pass your tests.
Your instructor trains you for the two practical tests for a Class 6 licence in British Columbia, and also teaches the habits experienced riders rely on: reading traffic, managing space, staying calm and making early, smooth decisions.
Two bikes, matched to what you're learning
Honda small-frame bike for MST
Light, low and easy to manage at walking speed, which makes it ideal for learning clutch control, slow turns and slalom in the skills course.
Honda Rebel for road test
A comfortable, low-seat cruiser that feels natural in city traffic. Train on the type of bike you can ride your road test on.
- MST skills
we teach in detail
The MST tests control of the motorcycle at low speed on a marked course. We break each skill into small steps and drill it until it feels automatic.
Clutch control
The clutch is how you control speed and power at low speed. You learn to find the friction zone (where the engine starts to drive the bike) and hold it steady.
- Smooth starts without stalling or lurching
- Feathering the clutch with the throttle to keep speed steady
- Pulling in the clutch only when you need to, not as a reflex
Slow riding
Riding slowly is harder than riding fast, because the bike is less stable. We teach you to keep it balanced and in a straight line at walking pace.
- Looking far ahead instead of down at the front wheel
- Relaxed arms and grip, with weight through your feet and core
- Using the rear brake lightly for stability
U-turns
A U-turn in a tight space tests your balance, clutch, throttle and rear brake together.
- Turn your head and eyes through the whole turn, to where you want to end up
- Keep steady throttle, slip the clutch and drag the rear brake slightly
- Lean the bike, not your body, and finish the turn without putting a foot down
Slalom
Weaving through evenly spaced cones teaches smooth steering and quick but controlled direction changes.
- Look ahead to the next cone, not the one beside you
- Use gentle pressure on the handlebars to change direction
- Keep a consistent rhythm and speed through the line
Road test skills we teach in detail
The road test checks that you can ride safely in real traffic. We practise on Vancouver streets until each skill is routine.
Variable speed zones
Adjust smoothly as speed limits change, from school zones to arterial roads.
- Noticing signs early and adjusting before the zone starts
- Smooth throttle and gear changes without jerking
- Matching speed to conditions, not just the posted limit
Lane changes (left and right)
A lane change on a motorcycle needs a routine every time.
- Mirror check, signal, shoulder check, then move smoothly
- Checking blind spots, which mirrors don’t show
- Holding your position in the new lane and cancelling the signal
Right and left turns at intersections
Intersections are where most car and motorcycle conflicts happen.
- Scanning for cars, cyclists and pedestrians before you commit
- Choosing the right lane position and speed for the turn
- Looking through the turn, then rolling on the throttle smoothly
- Checking again for oncoming traffic on left turns
Parking and turns into and out of parking
Low-speed control from the MST carries over to the street.
- Signalling, slowing and positioning to turn into a parking spot or driveway
- Parking the bike safely and putting it on the stand
- Checking traffic and pulling away smoothly
Beyond the test: the mindset of a safe rider
Passing gets you the licence. These habits keep you safe on the road, and we practise them in every lesson.
- Scan constantly. Look well ahead, check mirrors and watch for hazards before they become problems.
- Be seen. Ride where drivers can see you, and assume they might not.
- Manage your space. Keep a buffer around you so you always have somewhere to go.
- Stay calm. Breathe, relax your grip and make smooth inputs, even when something surprises you.
- Look where you want to go. The bike follows your eyes, so look at the path, not the hazard.
- Know your limits. Build confidence step by step and ride to your skill level and the conditions.
- Dress for the ride. Wear a helmet, gloves, a jacket and sturdy boots every time.
